Can Medical Marijuana Help Prevent Covod-19?

During the pandemic of Covid-19, researchers across the globe are trying to find the component or exact medicine that can help prevent humans from corona virus. Recently, the Canadian researchers have found that extracts from medical marijuana can help prevent or treat the corona virus infection.

The study was conducted by Albera researchers in Canada titled- “In Search of Preventive Strategies: Novel Anti-Inflammatory High-CBD Cannabis Sativa Extracts Modulate ACE2 Expression in COVID-19 Gateway Issues.”  These researchers used artificial 3D models of airway, oral, and intestinal tissues.  The outcome of the study specifies, hemp extracts that are high in CBD can help to block proteins – the ACE-2 receptors, which is an entry point for coronavirus into host cells in the body.

The key role according to the study is that marijuana helps block the virus cells against entering the human body. Although, among 1000 varieties of cannabis only a few have medical benefits the ones with benefits looks helpful to prevent or block corona virus infection. Dr. Igor Kovalchuk said,( CEO of Pathway Rx and holder of a Health Canada License for Cannabis Research, as reported by AJC) “Our initial findings warrant further investigation but it’s possible that medical cannabis products could become a safe adjunct therapy for the treatment of COVID-19.”  

There are researches going on for Covid-19 treatment around the world and many organizations have testified that medical marijuana may help cure coronavirus infection. The virus was initially found in Wuhan city of China and later, it spread across nations. Now it has turned to the pandemic that has killed major population percentage throughout the world. Scientists, researchers and medical organizations are working tirelessly to find one suitable option for corona virus-infected patients.
